While working on a project, the ribbon is where most actions are being done. So, instead of digging into the ribbon, the Office Fluent Interface makes your work faster and more convenient. This new kind of interface allows you to operate the app with the tools grouped in tabs. So, the tools are no longer hiding on the menu or the toolbar. They are now readily available in just a few clicks. For example, the Home tab is where the most used tools are located. Another one is the Design tab where backgrounds, titles borders, page setup, themes, and other tools about the design of the diagram are found. Remember that the tools are grouped based on their use. The tabs that you will see in this version are Home, Insert, Design, Data, Process, Review, and View.
This upgrade is paramount to reduce the tedious task of choosing and putting different shapes in your project. The shapes window is where you can see all the stencils that are being used in the document. The new Quick Shape feature is the top of every stencil is where you can put the shapes you most often use.
If you want to remove a form in this area, you can just simply drag it out. Then, you can drag a shape in to add it on the Quick Shape area. You can also rearrange the shapes by dragging them anywhere in the Quick Shape window. Also, to reduce the hassle of having to open each stencil if you want to use few shapes on each of them, you can go to Quick Shape feature to see your most-often used shapes in each stencil in one place.
Now, if you are annoyed about leaving the Shapes window to find more stencils, this version is a solution to that. The More Shapes menu is now located in the Shapes window. Then, the search box is located in the More Shapes task pane. So, if you click that, there should be a list including "Search for shapes" and "Find shapes online..."
This is where you can make changes in the document temporarily. As you point the cursor on a certain formatting option, the preview of what will happen will be shown on the record. This is very convenient because you don’t have to undo or try each option. This feature allows you to try several options quicker because you only have to point on the command and watch the magic as it happens.
When working with large diagrams, it would be annoying to try to fit them on a printer paper size page. So, this new feature will sure please your visuals as it allows you to expand the page depending on your preference. You don’t have to access any tool in this one because it acts automatically on the document. Once you drop a large object on the page, it will automatically adjust and accommodate the size of the object. However, if you are using the usual size of the printer paper as your basis when designing your diagrams, you can still see the page breaks as dotted lines emphasize them.
Microsoft Visio is now integrated with SharePoint Web. This is to create a highly interactive experience for the users through the use of the internet. You can share your work with several people, and they can view it even without a Visio app on their computers. They are still free to study the diagrams and even follow the hyperlinks embedded in it. You may also publish your work in SharePoint inside Visio Standard 2010 application. So technically, you can use this integration as your new storage. Now, you can view your diagrams anywhere and everywhere using a browser.
