The Windows Server 2012 R2 is the latest server operating system that is slowly upgraded from its Windows Server 2008 predecessors. It has about over 300 new features and enhancements that are built to meet the requirements of the modern business environment. This can be suitable for various types of enterprises and service providers as well as the SMBs.
The Windows Server 2012 R2 is not being considered as the cloud-optimized server operating system. It is both an open application and a web platform that allows enterprises to build, set up, and even scale modern applications as well as high-density websites for both the data center and the cloud.
The Windows Server 2012 R2 server operating system spans from customer datacenters, data center for cloud service providers, and the public cloud for Microsoft itself. It allows for easier configuration for enterprises that are looking to move into the IaaS or the Infrastructure as a Service.
The Windows Server 2012 R2 was built by having business applications. This produced the ability that can enable businesses and enterprises to create and set up various business applications in the data center that utilize the APIs and the cloud-based services.
Windows Server 2012 R2 also offers an improved support when it comes to open frameworks, relevant development languages, and open source applications.
The Hyper-V in Windows Server 2012 R2 is enhanced to be able to detect and address network connectivity failures like faulty switch ports and faulty network adaptors. The Failover Cluster feature in the Windows Server 2012 R2 can identify problems in a certain node where another node from the cluster will provide the service automatically.
The modified Hyper-V can now also monitor that unmanaged storage that is being used by some clustered virtual machines. So whenever an individual VM loses its access to a particular unmanaged drive, the CSV or Cluster Shared Volume function will provide the logical namespace for nodes to be able to access the shared storage.
While the Hyper-V Replica was first introduced in the Windows Server 2012, it is now improved in the Windows Server 2012 R2. It has now an added cloud backup option through the ability in extending the replication feature up to the third disaster recovery server.
Whenever the primary VM fails and the second server takes over, the Windows Server 2012 R2 will automatically work on replicating that particular server to the remaining available server.
The replication feature of the Windows Server 2012 R2 also allows users to be able to set the frequency level of the replication and also give an additional choice regarding replicating into the Windows Azure or any other cloud-based replication service provider.
More and more users demand the ability to access work applications and files remotely regardless of the type of device they are currently working on and whether that certain device is joined by domain or not.
Windows Server 2012 R2 has released some new features that allow secure access grants to the corporate applications and files for BYOD or Bring Your Own Device policies. This involves allowing associations with the Active Directory of the company and in which this connection is used to provide a single and sign-on capability for accessing contents through the net or internally.
This is one of the new role services in the Remote Access function in Windows Server 2012 R2. It is used in conjunction with the Workplace Join to provide remote end users with the access grant for services and applications that are running on the organizations’ servers.
